5/11/2023 0 Comments Empire of storms bookThis 700-page book will have you stressed out in the best way. They may be the ultimate dream team to the fight against the Valg’s, but they’re still people who can feel the weight of the world pushing down on their shoulders. Those moments are subtle ways to see the humanity of each character shine through. Amongst the drama, each couple does get to have their own intimate moment that breaks up the action. There is no other option but for them to succeed, and that tone is felt through the entire book. The stakes have reached a point where Aelin can’t fail. The book moves at an incredibly fast pace, but it’s okay because I found that I wanted it to move quickly. I found myself flipping through the pages at record speed so that I could breathe again. Every single freaking plot twist was new, exciting, and most of the time terrifying. I questioned what else could be thrown at this group that would prove to be a challenge for them, what else could they face that would push them to their limits and make me live in a state of perpetual nervousness? The answer is everything in this book. I kept thinking that there was no way that Aelin and her crew were going to get away from each battle unscathed, but yet they would. Each chapter carried monumental information and an earth-shattering plot twist. Every second of this book was planned out perfectly even if the readers didn’t know it. Maas has truly outdone herself with this book in terms of the plot.

Allison discusses-with candor and quick wit-her upbringing, her work in a variety of modes (novels, short stories, essays, poetry), and her active participation in the women's movement of the 1970s. The interviews detail Allison's working-class background in Greenville, South Carolina, as the daughter of a waitress. In this collection, spanning almost two decades, Allison the performer and Allison the careful craftsperson both emerge, creating a portrait of a complex woman. At the same time, Allison also takes the craft of writing very seriously. Often called a "writer-rock star" and a "cult icon," Allison is a true performer of the written word. Allison has frequently used her position, through passionate lectures and enthusiastic interviews, to give voice to issues dear to her: poverty, working-class life, domestic violence, feminism and women's relationships, the contemporary South, and gay/lesbian life. 1949) has been known-as with Larry Brown and Lee Smith-as a purveyor of the "gritty" contemporary South that, in many ways, is worlds away from prevailing "Southern Gothic" representations of the region. Since the publication of her groundbreaking novel, Bastard Out of Carolina (1992), Dorothy Allison (b. 5/10/2023 0 Comments Allison saft a far wilder magicSaft doesn’t shy away from showing the ugliness of bigotry, nor the hardships the main characters must endure simply for the identities they were born into. With constant discrimination from their community, Margaret and Wes are working to prove not only themselves but also that success is not contingent on identity or background. The heavy religious elements in this novel were something I didn’t anticipate, but it imbued the character’s motives with importance. The two, therefore, decide to join the Halfmoon Hunt, a sacred event at which alchemists and hunters pair up to hunt the last living hala, an elusive beast seen as evil by the Katharists but revered as a divine being by the Yu’adir and Sumic people. Wes wants to prove his alchemical abilities after being kicked out of several apprenticeships, and Margaret wants to prove herself worthy of her mother’s return. Aspiring alchemist Wes has shown up at the Welty Manor looking to become Evelyn’s apprentice. Margaret’s mother, Evelyn Welty, is a famous alchemist who has disappeared-as she often does-on one of her obsessive research trips. This novel follows Margaret and Weston, teenagers whose families practice the Yu’adir and Sumic religions respectively this makes them both outsiders in the heavily religious country of New Albion, where most follow the prominent Katharist religion. I haven’t done that in years, which leads me to the primary adjective I’d use to describe Saft’s sophomore novel: unexpected. I should start by saying that I read Allison’s Saft’s A Far Wilder Magic in one sitting. Is a playful, surrealist dance through queer coming of age.Ī haunted young girl (who happens to be a kung-fu expert and pathological liar) runsaway from an oppressive city, where the sky is always grey, in search of love and sisterhood-and finds herself in a magical place known only as the Street of Miracles. There, she is quickly adopted into a vigilante gang of glamorous warrior femmes called the Lipstick Lacerators, whose mission is to scour the Street of violent men and avenge murdered trans women everywhere. The real world is never far away from Kai Cheng’s reality, but she holds it back with a lightness of being and an illusionary gloss of magic. At once a love letter and challenge to the traditional transgender memoir, The world of Fierce Femmes and Notorious Liars is a conscious creation of wonderment with trans women as heroes and legendary beings. 5/10/2023 0 Comments Stuart little charlotte's webBut on the whole his life is a happy one. The problem was I couldn't stand the heroine she was the b-word personified. The premise was good, the sex steamy, the side characters intriguing, and the hero delectable. Harper's previous works, I was a little disappointed with this effort. But American wealth and success mean little when stacked up against London titles and rules of society.
